his exquisite sterling silver plate has a wide, exquisitely
designed border, or “
marli
”, with a motif of stylized leaves on a
guillochis
background ringed by
an edge of beading.  The bottom bears the French “
Minerve
Premier
Titre
” hallmark, indicating the highest quality of French
sterling silver (950/1000), used in Paris since 1838. It also bears the maker’s
mark consisting of the initials “D.” and “R.” above a domino with a
double-two and the word “Paris” surrounded by two stars, the mark of
Claude
Doutre-Roussel
, master silversmith in Paris,
located from 1895 in the
rue
Vieille
-du-Temple
in the
Marais
district
of Paris. This piece is in very good condition with the exception of faint
scratches due to great age and normal use. Please refer to
